Oxycodone 30mg Hydrochloride Tablets
Oxycodone 30mg is a prescription opioid analgesic used for the management of severe pain when alternative treatment options are inadequate. It works by acting on opioid receptors in the central nervous system to help reduce the perception of pain.
Indications & Usage of Oxycodone 30mg
This medication is indicated strictly for the management of acute or chronic pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic, and for which alternative, non-opioid treatment options (such as NSAIDs or acetaminophen) are ineffective, not tolerated, or otherwise inadequate.
Immediate-Release: Used for the management of breakthrough or acute moderate-to-severe pain.
Extended-Release: Reserved for continuous, around-the-clock, long-term pain management (e.g., severe cancer pain) and should never be used on an “as-needed” (prn) basis.
Mechanism of Action
Oxycodone works directly on the central nervous system (CNS). It binds to specific opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, altering the transmission of pain signals and changing how the body perceives and emotionally responds to pain.
Physical Characteristics (Immediate-Release Typical)
Appearance: Small, round, blue-colored tablets.
Common Imprint: Frequently marked with an “M” on one side and “30” on the reverse (Manufacturer: Mallinckrodt). Note: Extended-release formulas are typically brown, round, and marked with “OC” or “OP”.
⚠️ Critical Safety Information & Boxed Warning
Addiction, Abuse, and Misuse: Oxycodone exposes users to the risks of opioid addiction, abuse, and misuse, which can lead to overdose and death. Tablets must be swallowed whole; crushing, chewing, or dissolving them causes a rapid, uncontrolled release of a fatal dose.
Life-Threatening Respiratory Depression: Serious, life-threatening, or fatal respiratory depression may occur. Monitoring is critical during treatment initiation and dose adjustments.
Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome: Prolonged use during pregnancy can result in life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 Interactions: Concomitant use with CYP3A4 inhibitors (like certain antibiotics or antifungals) can increase oxycodone concentrations, dangerously prolonging adverse effects.
